Our Mission

To build an inclusive and equitable research community with PEERs in Parasitology

Our Mission

PiP works in partnership with our non-PEER colleagues in the field of parasitology to provide parasitologists of color from around the world with a safe, professional, collaborative, and collegial space to engage with each other. We seek to promote the contributions of parasitologists of color and strive to increase PEERs’ representation and cultural awareness of communities most impacted by parasitic infections within the broader parasitology community.

Our approach

  • Create a forum/community for PEER scientists to meet, interact, and network with each other.

  • Engage with scientists interested in parasitology at all levels around the world.

  • Collaborate with non-PEERs in Parasitology to recruit, train, mentor, and retain parasitologists of color.

  • Bring awareness to the disparities and challenges of PEERs in parasitology.

  • Showcase the work of PEER scientists in Parasitology at PiP events and other scientific venues.

  • Identify and increase access of PEER parasitologists to academic positions, job opportunities, and funding sources.

  • Advocate for more diversity, equity, and inclusion in our field.

What We’ve Achieved

  • Established Parasite Hours with PiP, a monthly seminar series highlighting the scientific contributions and journeys of PEER parasitologists around the world.

  • Held a Parasite Day with PiP to showcase the work of trainees and provide advice on various

  • Promoted PEER speakers at major parasitology conferences like MPM and BSP and on social media platforms.

  • Engaged participants in Diversity in STEM sessions at conferences

  • Curated a growing directory of PEER parasitologists as a resource for the research community to refer to when nominating scientists for invited talks, awards, conference chairs, etc.

  • Created a forum for PEER parasitologists to come together and lend mutual support
